Scope of this policy

This policy applies to information collected through citizenship.co.nz and any of its subdomains. It does not apply to third-party websites that we link to or that link to us.

By using this website you consent to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.

Information that remains on your device

When you use the free calculator without creating an account, the visa details, dates, and travel history that you enter are processed entirely within your web browser using JavaScript. That information is not transmitted to our servers, does not pass through any third party, and is not retained after you close the page.

We do not request a passport number, identity document number, or any other government-issued identifier. Calculation results are not saved or transmitted unless you explicitly choose to download a paid report, or to save them to a tracker account — both of which are described in the next section.

Information we collect on our servers

We log anonymous usage events on our own infrastructure to understand how the site is used and to inform decisions about which features to improve. The events we record consist of:

• Pages viewed and interactions with the calculator and other features of the website;
• Device category (mobile, tablet, or desktop) and an anonymous daily-rotating visitor identifier used solely to count unique visitors per day;
• The visa category, if any, that you select in the calculator. We do not record specific dates, names, identifiers or any other personal details that you enter.

If you choose to subscribe to email updates we additionally store your email address, the visa type you selected if any, and the page from which you subscribed. Email delivery is performed by a third-party email-delivery provider acting on our instructions. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link contained in every email we send.

If you choose to create a saved tracker account, we store the information needed to operate it. This includes your email address and an authentication credential; the visa type and visa grant date you enter; your recorded trip history; and, if you add them, the names and visa details of the family members you choose to track. Where you make a one-time payment for a saved account, the payment itself is processed by a third-party payment provider; we receive confirmation that payment was made and a reference identifying your account, but we do not receive or store your full card number. This account information is held on our behalf by a third-party database and hosting provider acting under our instructions, is used solely to operate the tracker and send the reminders you ask for, and is retained until you ask us to delete it or delete your account.

We do not sell, lease, license or otherwise share this information with third parties for advertising, profiling or marketing purposes.

Third-party providers

We engage third-party providers to host this website, host the database and accounts used by the saved tracker, process one-time payments, deliver account and subscription emails, and provide aggregate visitor analytics. Where a provider processes information on our behalf, it does so subject to our instructions and applicable contractual terms. We identify these providers by the category of service they perform rather than by name.

Our analytics provider may set cookies in your browser to support aggregate visitor measurement. The information collected typically includes pages visited, time spent, device type, browser, operating system, approximate geographic location and referral source. Analytics providers do not have access to the information you enter into the calculator. You can manage or block cookies through your browser settings.

Cookies

We use cookies that are strictly necessary for the operation of the website, together with a limited number of cookies set by our third-party analytics provider. We do not currently place advertising cookies. Should that change, this policy will be updated and an opt-out mechanism documented before any advertising cookies are placed on your device.

Your rights under the NZ Privacy Act 2020

If you are a New Zealand resident, the Privacy Act 2020 gives you the right to:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of personal information that you believe is inaccurate
• Request deletion of personal information we hold about you

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us through the details published on our About page. We will respond to verified requests within twenty working days, in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act.

Children

The website is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the bottom of this page reflects the date of the most recent amendment. Material changes will be brought to your attention through a notice on the website prior to taking effect.
